Location

We have put together some helpful directions and advice, to make your journey to The Quarry as stress free as possible.

Driving

Follow signposts for Ilfracombe.

If coming from Combe Martin (A399)

Drive along Ilfracombe High Street, right to the end (past Somerfield on your right). At the traffic lights, head straight over towards the mini roundabout. At the roundabout turn left and then take the first turning right – this is Church Hill.

Drive up Church Hill, with the church on your right. Continue along here – the road bears round to the left, and on your right, you’ll see some big houses set into the hillside – The Quarry is one of these. At the end of the road, at the T junction, turn right. This is Torrs Park. The road bears round to the right and up the hill. You will pass 2 left turns, and after these the houses begin - starting with Norbury House Hotel.

We are the 6th house on the left-hand side. ‘The Quarry’ is carved into the gatepost. The drive is VERY steep, with a sharp turn to the left 1/2 way up. It’s fine to drive cars up here, but take it slowly and always turn left into the drive rather than right. There's room for 3 cars at the top, and plenty of room to turn around.

If coming from Braunton/Barnstaple (A361)

Follow signs to Ilfracombe. At Mullacott Cross Roundabout the left-hand turn is to Woolcombe, there is the Cooks Island Pub straight ahead. Go straight across here, heading towards Ilfracombe. The road goes down into the town.

After a few minutes this becomes St Brannocks Road, with lots of small B&Bs. At the end of the road, but before the mini roundabout, there are 2 left turns – one which doubles back on yourself and another that goes off at a right angle (Church Hill) – this is the one you need.

Follow directions as no. 2 in Combe Martin.

Train

The nearest train station is Barnstaple, this is a branch line from Exeter. We are about a 20-minute taxi ride from Barnstaple. If you're coming from London, and there are a few of you, get the train to Tiverton Parkway (2.25 hrs from Paddington) and arrange for a taxi to drive you to Ilfracombe. The journey is roughly 1 hour long.
